Get a better PSU.  630w is NOT ENOUGH to run a Quad Core AND that video card.  The video card alone requires 500w.  Personally I prefer ANTEC, but to each his own.  You'll probably want at least 700w imo.  It doesn't hurt to get more than you need.  It gives you room to upgrade later, and you don't run the risk of a PSU blowing and taking things like your motherboard and video card with it.

OCZ Reaper HPC 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model

In order to address 4GB of ram you will need a 64-bit OS.  If you are going to run a 64-bit OS you need to research the hardware you are going to get to be aware of any potential problems they may have when running 64-bit drivers (or even if they have 64-bit drivers).  Pat has much more experience than I do with this subject, his Vista machine is 64-bit IIRC.

Also, the motherboard you chose only supports DDR2 800 I believe.  No point in putting DDR2 1066 on it, or spending the extra money.

Just a suggestion, make sure your heat sink will fit into your case.  I've seen it many times where people research the hell out of hardware compatibilities and capabilities, but never think about how it's all going to fit together. lol

Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD6400AAKS 640GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive

The only thing i have to say about your hard drive choice is, this is an excellent drive.  It's tested to have some of the fastest response times of any 7200rpm drive out there.

All together not bad, but I do think there is room for some minor improvement.  Total cost is low and performance will be quite nice.

the reason i chose the memory i did is for upgradability. while for right now 800 is far more than i need, having memory that will weather a motherboard upgrade in the future will only make my system more vauable.

the case i have chosen is large... larger than a filipino's appetite at an all you can eat dog roast. the fan will easily fit.

yes,i will be running 64b vista.

thank you for your comments on the HD, thats one of the items i found a ton of conflicting reviews on. i have seen people who report a doa [ercentage of over 90% but you never know if people are being drama queens.

ill look into a more powerful power supply. with what you said maybe ill look for something in the 1000w range. got any ideas?

Vitandus

You don't need a kw PSU for this machine. I am running a machine here with a quad core, twin drives, and SLI with a 750w power supply. A similar PSU is all you need for now. If you upgrade in the future, just spend the $100 and get another good one. I recommend Antec, PC Power and Cooling, Seasonic. Do not buy a cheap PSU.

That motherboard won't clock as high as the RAM you bought. Just buy DDR2 800.

Not a huge fan of Intel motherboards for gaming rigs - you pay more for platform stability (as in it won't change) that you don't need with a gaming rig.

Love the Q6600 but I am in the minority. I use my PC for more than just gaming. OK, mostly gaming, but when I re-render video ripped from my TiVo, the 4 cores are awesome.

You might want to spend the extra $$ and build yourself an i7-based computer. I'll price one out for you in the next 2 days.

i do other things than gaming, like editing my pr0n and making flyers for the candyvan
