Title: Paladin healers: GC speaks
Post by: Vitandus on Thu, 2009-06-04 : 11:54
This topic has strayed a little bit from "Why are there healing niches?" to "I am a paladin healer and I hate my class."

Look, we get that....

1) Stacking mostly Int isn't fun.
2) Having 70%+ overheal isn't fun.
3) Focusing so much on the main tank in a raid isn't fun.
4) Casting nothing but Holy Light isn't fun.

We do have some ideas for how to fix these problems. They aren't redesign-the-class level because frankly we don't think the class needs that, but the proposed changes would fix the above four problems. Understand though that part of reducing overhealing and being a more flexible raid healer might come with regen or mana pool nerfs. It is possible that the only thing keeping Holy paladins from being too good right now is their narrow focus.

That's kind of weird, I never knew that other paladin healers felt like that. I don't seem to experience any of those things listed. I like my mana pool, my overhealing is below 30%, I'm usually made to raid heal for some reason, and my healing style has evolved so that my three heals make up equal parts of my overall healing. Oh well, changes are part of the game, I can always adapt.

If they destroy the class because people don't know how to play it, I'm going to have a shit fit.

1) You don't NEED to stack mostly Int. Yes, Int is good. Yes it increases your mana pool (which is not an issue for me edit: and wouldn't be and issue for anybody if they weren't spamming HL), yes it increases your crit (but not as much as gemming for straight crit will), yes it increases your SP (which is not a big deal if your SP is already over 2k).

2) I have NEVER had 70% overheals. My overheals are almost always under 40%, and most of it comes from Beacon and Judgement of Light. If you are overhealing that much, you suck at being a holy paladin.

3) Who the fuck focuses mostly on the main tank as a paly healer? Beacon his ass and heal the raid.

4) I don't understand this spamming Holy Light thing. No wonder those idiots have such high overheals and rely so heavily on Int. Learn to use your other spells when HL isn't necessary, you twits.

Grrr

Sara, I think it's due to the same "I gotta have huge numbers from every spell!" attitude that is exhibited by DPS players. Why spam Flash of Light when you can get bigger numbers from Holy Light?
