Title: Aion OB
Post by: Daemus on Tue, 2009-09-08 : 10:14
Anyone playing the Aion Open Beta at the moment?

I've been playing it - It's a nice change from Wow at least.  Something different.

The lag from their provider issues has been a bit of an issue the last day or two though.

I thought about it, but I don't want another Warhammer deal where the game was good but the audience just wasn't there.

*nod*  I hear ya there.  I was around for the start of Warhammer as well.  I think if they can get a handle on this latency/lag issue before launch, they should end up with a good amount of subs.  I pre-ordered it, but hard to say if I'll stick it out past the first month or not.  My wow sub is expiring on the 16th, so I'll hold off on renewing that since I haven't had a lot of time to play one game, let alone subbing for two.

The interface latency was what killed it for me in WAR. Also the population issue was caused by the stigma of "alliance vs horde/red vs blue", where no one who played WAR wanted to be Order, and everyone wanted to be Destruction.

Lets hope Aion is just a good clean game, and I'll give it a shot. They already won just by making people pay $50 for the first month.

The Destruction-heavy leaning is why I ended up going Order. Warrior Priest FTW.

Heh, well they opened up the Open Beta on FilePlanet to everyone now...Including non paying members.  So anyone can grab a key and hop into the game.  They seemed to have fixed the latency issues (none today), and the OB is running until the 13th.  Doing your ascension quest and getting your wings for flying is pretty sweet.
