Title: Affliction Spec Dabate
Post by: Raelthorn on Sat, 2010-03-13 : 09:39
Thanks to 1000G, boredom, and being a littler sleepy I considered a spec other then demonology.  Yay Dual spec?  So I figured I'd try out affliction....

Original Demo: http://www.wowarmory.com/talent-calc.xml?cid=9&tal=030000000000000000000000000000320230113521253013520105155000015010000000000000000 (http://www.wowarmory.com/talent-calc.xml?cid=9&tal=030000000000000000000000000000320230113521253013520105155000015010000000000000000)

I think.  Then I tried a Random Heoric.... I couldn't see the difference in DPS from my demonology Build.  Actually this pug was a very good pug getting through Halls of Stone in about 25 minutes. However my DPS.... not much better.  Also trash mobs were painful compared to Demo.  I mean Fel Hunters DPS was not comparing to fel guard and nothing lived long enough for anything to tick.  Then I discovered a few things... 1st:

Glyph of Life Tap: Okay so I am a little slow and may have had to ride the short bus when I was little.... DON'T JUDGE ME MONKEY!
Dark Pact is somewhat useless: In reality with Fel Armor and Haunt there is no reason why life tap will not suffice.  AND Life tap gives more mana, although Fel Hunters have UNLIMITED MANA!  Which is good for a pressing situation.
Improved Shadow Bolt: I love this... no reason not to take it.

Then the debate: Imp or Fel-Hunter.  Blizz seems to be very intentional with what pet goes to each build.  Fire Locks love imps.  Demo Locks have their own juicy man bits to play with.  But to the Shadow Lock goes the Fel-Hunter.  An old favorite of mine actually.

With the talent (which also gives a HUGE boost to spirit and thus spell power)

So I got to talking and tinkering.  And so the final spec, which I feel is solid in every PvE way (with 2 points left over for shits and giggles) http://www.wowarmory.com/talent-calc.xml?cid=9&tal=235020203022351025351033115100000000000000000000000000055000010000000000000000000 (http://www.wowarmory.com/talent-calc.xml?cid=9&tal=235020203022351025351033115100000000000000000000000000055000010000000000000000000) with shadow burn and dark pact as superfluous points, but fun and Dark Pact is good in a pinch.... and to think it use to be the 31 point talent.  No wonder everyone went SM/Ruin.

My Affliction build (http://www.wowarmory.com/talent-calc.xml?cid=9&tal=235022200002351025350033115100000000000000000000000000055000005000000000000000000)

IMO, don't need Dark Pact since Life Tap is part of your rotation. Throw in Improved Life Tap and macro different ranks to control the health hit. You're also throwing Haunts to keep Corruption rolling, so you just need to time a Life Tap with a Haunt return.

Ruin is a tremendous talent for Affliction - Shadowbolts are the most common spell you actively cast so you want them to hit as hard as possible.
