Title: MSTRKRFT: Future Main Tank
Post by: MSTRKRFT on Mon, 2011-06-27 : 20:53
General Info

Character name(s), class(s), build(s), and level(s)

MSTRKRFT: Level 85 Protection/Retribution Paladin

Player name (We operate on a first name basis in HDL)

Tristen

Player age - [HDL] guild and Ventrilo chatter is for mature audiences only. If you are not 18+, you will need to be sponsored by a guild member in good standing.

21

Where did you hear about [HDL]?

Battlenet server forum

Why do you want to join [HDL]?

To enter the raiding scene with a group of equally mature and cynical adults

What is your guild membership history? Why did you leave or want to leave?

I was a member of 'House of Piggy' from ~20 to 85. I left for it's bad reputation, the preponderance of immature, uneducated players and the lack of raiding opportunities.

What do you want from a guild?

A spot on a raid roster and a couple of dudes to bullshit with while I do dailies and mine for hours on end.

Can you follow kill order?

Yes.

Are you a Casual player, Raiding oriented player, or a PvP oriented player?  If you think you are a combination of any of those, what percentage of time would you spend on each?

Raiding/Casual. My goal in World of Warcraft is to reach the highest echelons of gameplay and achievement. On one hand this will require me to be serious and play to the best of my abilities but I must also spend a lot of time grinding professions, mining etc. and that is where the 'casual' comes into play.

Raiding Questions

Will you dedicate 5 days a week to raiding?
Yes.

If you answered ""Yes" to the question above, are you aware that [HDL] is not a hard core raiding guild?
Yes.

Will you dedicate 2 nights a week to raiding?

Gladly

Are you willing to take/accept criticism to make you a better player?

YES. I am very good at dealing with constructive criticism, in fact I struggle to find people (in pugs, my old guild etc.) who know what I need to do in order to play better. I've done my best to read guides and theory and believe my skills to be in accordance with what is expected of entry level raiders but they can ALWAYS be better.

We do require Omen and Deadly Boss Mods. Do you have these installed?

Deadly Boss Mods is installed. The second I am signed up for a raid or hell, accepted to a guild I will get Omen and probably some other useful raid mods. Hell, I might just grab after I fill this out.

What is your primary and secondary talent build? Which do you prefer?

Protection is my primary and I love it. I enjoy tanking and the group-survivability tools it provides me with. Retribution has left a sour taste in my mouth. I have worked with it and been able to achieve 10k+ dps in heroics with ~350 ilvl but I do not enjoy relying on procs and cooldowns for my damage.

What is your rotation for your primary and secondary builds?

That's a hell of a question in that I believe that what separates a good player, one that truly understands the mechanics of the game does not simply spit out a rotation but caters to the ever evolving fight around them. With that being said for protection (using a boss as an example).

Open by using Divine Plea, Avenging Wraith (wings) then Judgement, followed by Avengers Shield if Sacred Shield does not proc.

Shield of the Righteous > CS > Avengers Shield (if not on CD), Divine Wraith if on CD > CS > DW > CS > SoTR > CS > Judgement > Rinse and repeat, throwing in Consecration if everything else is on cooldown.

Retribution

Judgement (for the movement buff) > CS > Inquisition > CS > DW > CS > Cons (if I have the mana) > CS > Inquisition

It's hard to write out a rotation for retribution because cooldown management makes it so that it's good to pop maybe one cooldown/trinket per trash pull while making sure that all of your CDs are up for the next boss fight. Also, with Exorcism and Holy Power procs you never really know exactly what you will be casting next. Playing retribution well is more about using your highest priority DPS move next and keeping inquisition up more than an intricate rotation.

Explain your gear choices, including gems and enchants.

For my protection set I have reforged and gemmed to accomplish the following goals.
1. Cap Expertise/Have a good level of hit (I've been told that my hit is a little high but I'm really comfortable with it)
2. Stack tons of mastery
3. Keep dodge and parry to where dodge is ~1% lower than parry because in raid situations my agility will be buffed to where I gain about 1% dodge making them even.
4. Take advantage of JC only massive stam bonuses. I'm at the point where I think I might have made myself a little 'hard to heal' and may be switching to JC only mastery gems after some feedback from my favorite healer

For retribution
1. Cap expertise and hit
2. Get as much strength as possible
3. For secondary stats reforging for mastery or haste > crit

What do you think of Gearscore?
I believe this question to be a bit outdated if I'm not mistaken. I know that GS was popular in the Wraith days but has grown out of favor with WoW's built in item level. It does show that the person in question has realized that maybe the gear that they are wearing can be chosen/modified to make them more effective and beyond that they took some time to look at what stats will make them the most effective and sought them out. Those people's GS will reflect that. The same goes for those with a poor GS.

PVP Questions

If it is absolutely neccessary I will go back and answer these questions, however, I do not pvp nor am I interested in it. I have never enjoyed pvp combat in MMOs ever since Everquest. I don't think they go well together and I find it clunky and unenjoyable. If this guild values pvp that's great and I respect a lot of pvpers because it does take skill, experience and knowledge. It's just not for me.

Social Questions

How would you rate yourself as a World of Warcraft player?

Awesome. I'm chill as shit and I know how to play my class.

Does .Net suck?

If you're refering to battle.net I don't mind it one bit. I wasn't here when it was introduced (I quit playing originally right as BC came out and now I'm back) so I don't know what it CHANGED. I do like being able to see what characters my brothers are playing but I hate the new WoW website layout.

Whiskey or whisky?

Whiskey. It sounds much classier.

Rank in importance to you: Raiding, Fun, PVP, Loot, Camaraderie, Wine, Women/Men, Music, Altaholism, Crafting.

Music, Camaraderie, Fun, Raiding, Loot, Crafting, Women (in terms of WoW), Altahol, Wine, PvP

Please provide a perl script that will sort a CSV file by first column, then second, and then insert into a mysql database.

What is your favorite instance? What is your favorite boss fight?

Halls of Origination: Good ratio of trash to bosses and I feel accomplished after finishing all 25 bosses.

Throngus: Mixes it up and provides a decent challenge. I also nabbed his finger.

Are you easily offended? Is your hot button race, religion, sex, or politics?

No. I stay out of the aforementioned hot button discussions except sex; the other three are a crapshoot.

Are you aware the [HDL] is largely a collection of angry and cynical players and under-geared toons?

When I read this question on the application it motivated me to fill it out now instead of add it to my list of other guild apps.

Really? Why do you still want to join [HDL]

I guess I'm just one of those people who deep down wants to stay miserable.

1) What is the best (or at least an awesome) dinosaur.  Support this claim with pics.

2) Based on "I was a member of 'House of Piggy' from ~20 to 85. I left for it's bad reputation, the preponderance of immature, uneducated players and the lack of raiding opportunities."  Have you seen us on trade chat?

3) Do you keyboard turn?

You fill out a good app sir.  Your toon name is a bit silly.  Is there a story to it?

Also, I support Maraa's question about dinosaurs.  Pics or it doesn't happen!  :P

1. Apatosaurus of course. This guy is pretty big, has a long ass neck and eats leaves all day. They are so big that other dinosaurs don't even fuck with them. Also they are estimated to have grown to be over 5000 feet long. So that means that they were some pretty big dinosaurs.

Also, look at dat face.

2. No. I try to ignore trade chat along with pretty much anything else that is in pink in the chat window.

3. Aw hell naw. Though I am still in the process of kicking the bad habit of backing up out of aoes and stuff as opposed to turning around and running through. It's coming along nicely.

That sort of music is my biggest hobby outside of WoW and is likely what I'm listening to while playing at any given point. I think it looks really cool aesthetically and my brother took the name Skrillx(after another DJ) for his Death Knight so we have a no vowel thing going. Fvck vowls.

XD what is that from?

I haven't been on ytmnd in forever. I've never seen ads and stuff on it. This is crazy. I feel like an old fart because I remember when there was no YTMND.com but only one website that was literally called yourethemannowdog.com and that's all it was.

I've never heard the band, but I approve of the type of music!  Points for introducing me to a new band!

Points for dinosaurs too.  Always points for dinosaurs.

I talked to Tristen at length last night about his app - he is aware we are not a hard core raiding guild, of our current raiding situation, and that we may want him to go retribution or sit on a rotation basis.

Based on his questions to me and his replies, I will (or any Raider can) invite him.
