Title: Pickpocket exploit
Post by: Fleas on Thu, 2009-01-15 : 10:53
The Avalanche in the northeast corner of Sholazar is an awesome spot for rogues to make easy money. By easy I mean just walking around in stealth and rolling your mouse wheel while your packs fill up with junkboxes, health potions, food, and cash. I'm not sure if it was intended or if it might be fixed, but all those hundreds of undead milling around are pickable. They have an insane respawn rate if you're on the quest controlling a giant to massacre them, and other questers will be doing it for you too. Besides, there's so goddamn many of them all over the place, if you slowly work from one side to the other, by the time you get back to start their pickpocket tables will reset anyway (5-10 mins).

Edit: This was not fixed in 3.0.8 or 3.1.0 so have at it.

What you'll get:

In less than 30 mins here's a sample of what I've been netting.

~68 gold
34 Reinforced Junkbox (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=43575#contains)
18 Runic Healing potions
23 Frostcap (food)
41 soggy hankies (heh)

That's not even counting what comes out of the junkboxes - more pots, cash, vendor trash, poisons, random greens, blues, gems, and a very small chance at three BoE rogue weapons which only drop from junkboxes:

Spineslicer (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=43612) - nice thrown weapon, slightly better than Lillehoff's Winged Blades (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=40716) and 2nd best in slot according to Shadowpanther (http://shadowpanther.net/armor-pve.htm), but Lillehoff's is only 15 heroic badges.

Krol Cleaver (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=43611) - decent Naxx prep purple for main hand combat swords if you choose to equip it or give it to a guildie/alt rather than sell it off, but a Titansteel Bonecrusher (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=41383) or Reaper of Dark Souls (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=44250) (Ebon Blade revered) would be nearly as good and frankly much easier/cheaper to acquire.

The Dusk Blade (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=43613) - Bliz could have at least put some stam on this. The armor penetration is pretty awesome in PvP against squishies, but I'm not sure if that would translate well to raid boss damage. Just sell it... some goober will buy it just because it's purple and rare. A Librarian's Paper Cutter (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=37856) costs ~100g (often less) on AH and will serve you much better in either hand.

These are all still worth 2-3k on AH since most rogues don't bother with pickpocket after their picklock skill hits max.

What you'll need:

- Lvl 80
- Minor Glyph of Pick Pocket (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=43343) to increase your range. Very important.
- Minor Glyph of Pick Lock (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=43377) to save you lots of time opening all those boxes. In 3.1.0 this is now 100%, instant cast.
- 3 points in Master of Deception (http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=13971) (1st tier subtlety)  or The Master's Treads (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=31288) (50g AH) + Enchant Cloak - Stealth (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=33149) or all. There are 80 elites wandering around.
- 3 points in Camouflage (http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=14063) (2nd tier subtlety) or movement speed items/enchants, which speeds up the process a lot and helps you avoid getting bumped and spotted.
- Lots of free bag space. :) Time to upgrade your packs. You'll get enough to buy a Frostweave Bag on your first run.

Most importantly, create a macro with the following and bind it to mouse wheel up or down (or both to eliminate accidental attacks):

/targetenemy
/cast Pick Pocket

This tab-targets through everything nearby and picks them, instant cast with no cooldown or delay, so all you have to do is walk near them and rake in the goodies. Autolooting takes much longer than the macro itself so you'll have to slow down on concentrated packs of mobs or your client can't keep up and you could miss out on some loot.

At first I was doing this for the purples... before I realized how much cash and healing potions I'm getting. I'm using Healing Injector Kits (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=37567) to compact the pots and selling extra stacks for 150g. If more than one rogue does this, the entire guild would never be short on healing pots. I've been buying the injector kits for dirt cheap on AH but if any engineers have extras laying around, I'll put them to use. This is much, much cheaper and easier than cranking them out with alchemy.

Where is the best place to go to leve up if you are not to 300 yet?  Leveling lockpicking is a pain in the butt.  I think the trainer is telling me over by undercity somewhere.
