Cataclysm

"Durotar is wrecked and apparently Orgrimmar could be destroyed. A new Orc city is rebuilt over the course of the expansion."

Interesting, as the initial thought during the Scourge invasion was that Orgrimmar might be destroyed. There are models already in the game and evidently some NPCs talk of Orgrimmar being razed.

Garrosh to declare open warfare on the Alliance!

MOUSE! ROD! Here we go brothers. We can finally clean their clocks for good. We need to start stacking our PvP gearz now. I want to burn them!

I hate the alliance. I back Garrosh's decision. With the coming cataclysm, I can't help but simply know in my heart that this is the fault of the Alliance.

I'm more interested in the new class combination that could be used if those are true. A Tauren Paladin or Priest would be pretty fun IMO. The Dwarf Shaman is awesome too, those little bastards are cool. :D

EDIT: I'm sad though because I won't be getting the stupid name Holycow kinda like Totemic. Some stupid 23 Shaman has it instead, I'm so sad. :(

I'm going to be annoyed if the alliance get some cool as new PC race like Worgen.  And we get stuck with goblins...who gives a fuck about goblins..

It'll almost certainly be Goblin Horde and Worgen Alliance, if those are indeed the two new races.  Seeing as how the goblins were originally Horde in the first two Warcraft games.

All this seems to me to be underwhelming. Severely underwhelming, in effect. Rehashing the old content like this seems lazy and a copt out.

I have no hopes that WoW can make PvP actual meaningful even with the injection of lore to add some sense of urgency.

Hope I am wrong, but this it is almost like someone at Blizzard said, "We needs another expansion for the cash..... hey, lets reuse all the old Azeroth content. Cheaper than making any new stuff. Hey, we can redo Ony and see if that works. We can add new stats and use the same art in like an afternoon and we can call if nostalgia and celebrating the games lauch. BRILLIANT! And if that works (which we know it will) we can then rehash all the vanilla stuff also. Man, this sure beats coming up with new content. Oh, we can take out those lines that forbid certain race/class combos in like 10 minutes. No new art since we added the viewer back in the 1.1x days we had to make all armor work on all races. This is going to rock and be the easiest expansion yet! We can make Azeroth flyable since no one believes the crap about it requiring work to do that.... flight paths and all that. We can use phasing to not have to come up with so many art assets for the zones also. Reuse FTW!".

Yeah, it's cynical, I know. But I can't be the only one to see how lame this direction is.

If when this comes out I am raiding BWL for Tier 12 and saving sand for Chromaggus, the nostalgia from the old 40 man content is going to last about 5 minutes. "Oneear, isn't this cool!?! NO, and if you wipe us again trying to res too close to Chromaggus' door, I will castrate you!"

Let me remind others of Horde Destruction League.  If we all want to play wolfmen when the expansion hits, and alliance gets wolfmen, we have a gbank and tabbard waiting.

Yeah it might be a cop-out for Blizzard to reuse the old instances/gear, but some people will enjoy it. They are at least opening up the sealed areas and that means we might be able to do even new raids. Even then, if both of the places are war-torn, that could open up new places to go also (like Westfall being a huge war zone) because I'm sure it will all be phased like they have it now so new people won't have an Org that is collapsed and stuff like that.

So yeah, rehashing sucks, but this is their chance to change the areas to be higher levels. Plus, VanCleef could be aided by some people and be a new raid instance (please)!

Blizzard isn't one to be very original anyway. It's not surprising that they reuse almost everything, or that most of their own ideas aren't even original at all. Let's not forget that the entire basis for Warcraft was taken from Warhammer.
Rule #1: Nobody is your friend.
Rule #2: Do not feel sorry for anybody.
Rule #3: Do not trust anybody.
Rule #4: Nobody can help you.
Rule #5: You gotta look good.

I doubt the suppression room will be the same. Afterall, they are moving away from requiring a specific class for a boss. I can't see them requiring rogues like that. And if they change it to just a click, it will ruin the gauntlet feel probably. Several of the old 40 man fights will just be kind of lame, IMO. They took all the really cool and hard parts of Naxx out when it went 25.

As far as ripping off Warhammer, oh yeah. WoW has always been just a refinement on tried and true older techniques, concepts, etc. But, I think there is a big difference between using something as inspiration (no matter how close to stealing IP it really is) and reusing old content with very minor tweaks en masse as the rumors are putting forth. The cost of game dev comes mainly from asset development. From what I have been reading Cataclysm is sounding like the least amount of content to be added.... sounds about the amount of a good content patch in terms of assets.

I hope they add some new raids and instances. And I think they will. But, this direction seems wrong to me. It seems too lazy and that does not bode well, IMO. WoW has been skating a good bit lately and this sounds like more of the same.
