Ever want to take one of your 80's and run a lowbie through an instance? I've always wondered what the ideal way to maximize EXP/hour is regarding levels of the player vs. the mob. I ran around and did some testing today with an 80 grouped with a level 22. Just thought I'd share.

EXPERIENCE CHART:
Player 22 vs. Mob 16 = (NO EXP)
Player 22 vs. Mob 16 = 10 exp
Player 22 vs. Mob 17 = 12 exp
Player 22 vs. Mob 18 = 13 exp
Player 22 vs. Mob 19 = 16 exp
Player 22 vs. Mob 20 = 17 exp
Player 22 vs. Mob 21 = 19 exp
Player 22 vs. Mob 22 = 22 exp

Now, the whole reason for doing this was I remember reading a long time ago that if the mobs were too much higher than the player, the experience would actually lessen. I was trying to figure out how high is too high. Luckily, the EXP slowdown was either removed, or it was never there to start.

The results show that mobs need to be 4 levels above the lowbie to get the most EXP per kill, but never diminishes so it doesn't matter how high you go. As long as you can kill a LOT, quickly.

Cathedral 2 pulls ftw?

The trick is to run your high level to the cathedral doors without agro'ing anything. You unlock the door, walk in, and hit the boss with a ranged attack (that will pull the entire cathedral except the optional boss to the right). Then you do a circuit around the zone collecting all the mobs in the courtyards, and get bitch slapped by 200 mobs simoultaniously as they die. One pull. Takes about 8 minutes. Then another 5 to loot :P

I love 1 pull Cathedral.  Its probably why SM is my favorite instance.

Totally. It sucks that you need a well geared 80 of a certain class/spec to do it. The casters occasionally land frostbolts which slow you down and let the mobs catch up, which is some serious hurt. I had the best luck with a prot paladin and Sacred Shield that eats most of the occasional damage, Hand of Freedom to remove the frostbolt effect, Pursuit of Justice for the run speed boost, and Consecrate does the full damage per tick (most spells have a diminished effect on lower levels) for fast takedowns. I've tried it with a 4500gs Fury Warrior and she got eaten. My 4000gs frost mage also got his ass handed to him. Granted, he was a gnome, so that's expected. Both were able to handle 2-pull clears. 1-pull was just too much heat, though.

I have done 1 pulls before but only on my Bear
