General Info

Character name(s), class(s), build(s), and level(s)
Bloodbound, Blood Elf Hunter, Level 80, Dual build - Beast Mastery and Marksmanship
Previously suffered from altaholism, but have been just focusing on Bloodbound; if I lapse, it would be with:
Divineblood, Blood Elf Paladin, Level 70, No build at the moment but would be retribution for soloing and probably holy for instances as that is what I raided at in Burning Crusade
Quasimojo, Troll Druid, Level 4, No build at the moment, but would be a Feral tank.

Player name (We operate on a first name basis in HDL)
Zach

Player age - [HDL] guild and Ventrilo chatter is for mature audiences only. If you are not 18+, you will need to be sponsored by a guild member in good standing.
31

Where did you hear about [HDL]?
Friend of my "current" (now defunct for over 2 years) guild Ascendance said you were a great guild to be a part of: Zorjin/Thox/a number of other alts I can't keep up with.

Why do you want to join [HDL]?
Though I am now a casual player, I would like my efforts to help contribute to leveling a good solid guild. I took a two year break from the game when my guild folded and now that I get to play more I would like to be in an actual guild of people to hang with.

What is your guild membership history? Why did you leave or want to leave?
I don't like to jump guilds all the time, which is why I'm still in a guild that no one even logs on. I used to be a hardcore raider in this guild, though our guild could never move from 10 mans into the 25-man progression that BC cursed us with. The guild folded and I am now the only member who ever logs on, which seems quite pointless. I would like to be in an active guild, helping to contribute where I can, with a good group of people.

What do you want from a guild?
I would like a guild to chat and hang with and group up with when I can, that understands a casual play style but can benefit from my questing, instancing, professions and occasionally PVPing.

Can you follow kill order?
Absolutely. Just let me know in chat, Vent, or use the raid icons and they will all die!

Are you a Casual player, Raiding oriented player, or a PvP oriented player?  If you think you are a combination of any of those, what percentage of time would you spend on each?
A casual player 100%. I like raiding, but no longer can do so with my work and family schedule. I PVP sometimes, but it is usually a means to an end (for example, I just had to do Arenas years ago to get those Merciless Chain Spaulders with the lightning flashes). PVPing with a group rather than pugging is fun though.

Raiding Questions

Will you dedicate 5 days a week to raiding?
No, my schedule only permits me to logon mornings, lunchtime and late afternoon.

If you answered ""Yes" to the question above, are you aware that [HDL] is not a hard core raiding guild?
That's a good thing in my case.

Will you dedicate 2 nights a week to raiding?
Would love to be able to commit to 2 nights, but can't with my schedule.

Are you willing to take/accept criticism to make you a better player?
Absolutely, I have learned how to be a better player from guildies in the past. And with the change to Focus for hunters I'm sure I have more I can learn. I visit warcrafthuntersunion often to learn shot rotations, gems, specs and all I can about hunters.

We do require Omen and Deadly Boss Mods. Do you have these installed?
Used to when I raided all the time and could certainly add them again, though, again, my ability to raid is limited.

What is your primary and secondary talent build? Which do you prefer?
My primary is Beast Mastery because I like the exotic pets and I find it easier for soloing old heroics and instances.
My secondary is Marksmanship which I always use in instances for the high DPS (well, unless we need a tank via my pet!)
I prefer both builds for different situations.

What is your rotation for your primary and secondary builds?
I read up on warcrafthuntersunion for shot rotations.
For Beast Mastery I focus on keeping enough focus for Kill Command, steady shot and burn off excess focus with Arcane Shot.
For Marksmanship, I usually Serpent Sting (if enough HP to warrant it), Steady Shot 2x to gain the haste effect from talents, burn off excess Focus with Arcane Shot, then Steady Shot 2x, Chimera Shot when the cooldown is up, another Arcane Shot, then back to Steady Shots.

Explain your gear choices, including gems and enchants.
Gear choices are fairly self explanatory for hunters - mail with agility and no intellect or spirit.
I only recently (since October) came back to playing the game so I have been somewhat lax on the best gems, and enchants at all, knowing that it would completely out of date in a month or two with Cata. Ordinarily I gem with rares, or epics as the game progresses and they become more widely available: agility gems only unless trying to activate a meta.

What do you think of Gearscore?
I think it's a good tool, though I don't think it should presume the correct gems and enchants have been put on gear and should correctly score those. I prefer sites like wowhead that analyze everything. Also, some items simply are better than higher iLvl items - such as some darkmoon faire trinkets and such.

PVP Questions

You are headed to run an instance with non-guildies when you spot a flagged gnome. What is the proper course of action: 1) Ignore the gnome and head to the instance, 2) Send a message to the guild of your find. flag immediately, and kill the gnome, leaving the PUG to wait, or 3) neither. If you selected 3, what course of action would you take?
1 - ignore the gnome. Unless actually PVPing in battlegrounds, I usually ignore flagged characters.

Same answer as above.

A tea bag is 1) a small porous bag containing tea leaves or powdered tea, onto which boiling water is poured in order to make a drink of tea, or 2) a verb.
1 - I like tea.

Do you prefer Battlegrounds, Arenas, or World PVP? Why?
Battlegrounds. I do not consider myself a good enough PVPer for Arenas. World PVP is fun if done in a group of people you know.

What is your favorite battleground? Why?
Alterac Valley - Horde has a disadvantage yet still pulls it off a lot, you can go offensive and charge forward with teammates, or you can go defensive and make sure the towers are safe and the alliance ones burn. I tend to go defensive until the alliance towers are gone and then go offensive.
I also like Arathi Basin. It's simple, yet a great exercise in teamwork.

Rank in important to stack for an Arena battle: Resilience, Attack Power/Spell Power, Critical Strike, Hit Rating.

Social Questions

How would you rate yourself as a World of Warcraft player?
As a soloer, a good player. In instances or raids, a good player. In PVP, an average player.

Does .Net suck?
I occasionally try to program in Visual Basic .Net but have never caught on with it like I did VB6. I don't think it sucks, I just don't have the time to dedicate to relearning it and C#, C++, etc.

Whiskey or whisky?
Whiskey. I don't personally drink but have no issues with those who do.

Rank in importance to you: Raiding, Fun, PVP, Loot, Camaraderie, Wine, Women/Men, Music, Altaholism, Crafting.
Fun, Women, Camaraderie, Music, Raiding, Loot, Crafting, Altaholism, PVP, Wine

Please provide a perl script that will sort a CSV file by first column, then second, and then insert into a mysql database.
I don't know perl. I used to do ASP with a SQL database many years ago.

What is your favorite instance? What is your favorite boss fight?
I loved the humor of Karazhan. It wasn't just about good raid fights or loot, it was the humor of Moroes, the hallway leading up to the Maiden, the opera events ("the better to own you with"), even Medivh. Fun, fun times.
Hard to say for the favorite boss fight - perhaps the Prince, just because it seemed so epic finally beating him and I can remember at least 2 occasions that I was the only team member left alive when we finally downed him.

Are you easily offended? Is your hot button race, religion, sex, or politics?
No, though I try not to offend others myself.

Are you aware the [HDL] is largely a collection of angry and cynical players and under-geared toons?
Sounds great.

Really? Why do you still want to join [HDL]
Sounds like I'd fit right in - Most people would probably classify me the same way.

Skippy

Hey Zach!  Was wondering if this app would roll in :)

Zach is a great team player and super friendly, not a bad hunter either ;P

What is your favorite kind of dinosaur?

and which one would you have as a pet?

drz2002

Good to see you, Skippy!

To answer some of the questions:

I do not keyboard turn, at least I don't think so. Doesn't sound like it would work too well with a laptop. I do however "mouse turn" for purposes of kiting with a jump shot.

Fave dinosaur would be the velociraptor mainly because my 16-month old makes a great impersonation. Sadly she manages to make every kid near her age cry when she tries to be friendly by screaming in their face...
I don't think I need one for a pet when I have my own child's impersonation. Couldn't afford its appetite anyways. Now, however, Bloodbound can always use another pet!

A sharptooth,  good choice.
