improving rogue DPS. I fucking hate my DPS now

Last night we tried a naxx run and my DPS sucked ass big time. I have been a rogue for 4 years now and I THINK I know my class pretty well. I raided MC, BWL, AQ 20, and we were into first bosses of Naxx before I quit raiding. I am definitely not an experienced raider but I am not a noob either. My gear is pretty decent for a naxx raid and every single piece is enchanted and gemed. I have 3000 attack power, 800 agility, 23% crit chance, 18k stam and 300 hit rating. I have epics in most slots and my blues are lvl 80 heroic drops. Depending on the spec my attack power goes up to 3400. All of these stats are unbuffed. I think these are reasonable stats for naxx, but my DPS still fucking sucked balls.

The trash goes down so fucking fast that u cant really build any rotation at all. U might aswell just stand and watch as the AOE just rips them apart. I was doing better on boss fights but I wasn't even close to what I want my DPS to be and what it should be.

I tried a HaT spec on the first boss of spider wing and I have to say I can see why ppl are talking about it a lot. It definitely has potential. I had to respect to combat cause I wasn't really familiar with this spec and my group composition wasn't proper for this spec. I actually wanted to see how the combat spec performs and I was very disappointed. The hit rating is a huge blow to this spec. u need 700+ hit rating to be hit capped against a lvl 83 boss which is right now impossible to achieve. Therefore, ur combat potency procs are going down the toilet and ur losing energy and dps. This spec is only good if ur close to being hit capped. Burst damage is the name of the game these days even for bosses and raids and this is where combat falls behind. There is just not enough time to build ur DPS. This was my rotation last night open with garrote, SS for 2 CPs then SnD and SS till 5 combo points and rupture, rinse and repeat. It failed really bad I wasn't even close to being competitive. I used Greed in main hand and titan steel dagger in off hand with wound poison on both.

I have also tried the mutilate spec and HfB is the worst fucking talent ever. I thought it wont be that hard to keep HfB up at full stack but when u actually try it out, it sucks balls big time. There is just too many things to watch in this build. Keep SnD up with finishers, watch the DP stacks for envenom, move out of boss AOE and so on. u forget about HfB and it drops. If HfB drops then ur fucked cause getting it back up will cost u a lot of energy and u lose DPS. The best this spec can do is to match the dps of combat spec which is still shit compared to other classes' DPS.

The spec that everyone is talking about lately is HaT. This spec is currently bugged but it's being fixed in patch 3.08. everyone thinks this spec is being nerfed but they need to L2 read. The bug is being fixed and the spec will work just fine. The HaT bug is this: if u have 2 HaT rogues in a group they will each get an extra CP per number of HaT rogue for each crit. This can lead to generating up to 25 CPs per second which results in 6K+ DPS on bosses. This is why they are fixing this bug but the spec is NOT being NERFED. U just wont get that extra CP. This spec is very dependent on group composition u need classes that have high crit chances. Therefore, BM hunters are ur best friend now. U get a CP for both the pet crit and the hunter crit. With the right group u can generate up to 8 CPs per second this means u will be spamming eviscerate constantly. I tried this build last night on the first boss of spider wing and my evis crit was as high as 7k each. The problem was that I had two warlocks in my group which are the worst class for this spec. I also had 2 unholy  DKs which are good for this spec and I was getting good CP gen from there. My brother tested this spec in his naxx raid with a ret pala, BM hunter, unholy DK, fury war and an enhance shaman and his DPS was 5K and he mostly has blue quest rewards. This spec is not dependent on gear or ur weapon much it's just about spamming eviscerate and ur group composition. It's not however as easy as it looks. Energy management is key to this spec aswell. U will find urself sitting at full energy and 5 CPs a lot. U should never be at full energy cause ur losing DPS. It takes time to get used to this spec. The CP generation is random and sudden so u have to watch ur energy and CPs a lot, but it's definitely better than the other 2 specs. A lot of ppl are catching up to this spec and aare switching to it cause rogues are losing their raid spot very quickly and I can see why. We bring no utility to the raid at all. The only thing we do is DPS and now other classes are doing it a lot better than us and they bring utility skills aswell. I hear it a lot lately that if u want a 25 man spot u have to be HaT spec otherwise ur DPS will go down the toilet.

This is a HaT spec btw and not a shadow step build so DO NOT pick up shadow step instead pick blade flurry in the combat tree. Wowinsider.com has an excellent post on this spec aswell I recommend reading it.

Iam gonna run some heroics and see if I can learn this spec better this weekend. I will try this spec again in naxx on Sunday (if they take me that is. With the fucking shit DPS that I did last time my chances are slim lol)

Let me know what u guys think is the solution and a better rotation or whatever. I am looking forward to post from fellow rogues or anyone with any suggestions.

PS: Pat I wanna try the HaT spec with ur ret pally, unholy DKs and a BM hunter if u get a chance this weekend. Let me know if we can run some heroics with this comp I wanna test it out if possible.

I don't know enough about Rogues to offer any advice. I can start reading up on them, but I may be reaching my current limit of theorycrafting maximum DPS. Brain full, need to process.

I did a WWS search of bosses to see runs where the rogues are crushing DPS. One I found had a rogue on top, with this as his build:

http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=fhecoxMoiroGzZ0xZebfbh0db

Another used http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=fhLZ0gc0x0xoZebc0GhzdAkVc

Here are there stats: http://wowwebstats.com/yf41wjk24hyh3?s=bosses

Now, they are in a 25 man which skews things a little, but I hope there is some info there that can help. Again, all of my rogue knowledge is from CB/B/retail so it's all more than 4 years old.

hmm thanks that just porved that the HaT spec works. his doing on average 4700 DPS with the HaT spec. I am definitely gonna try it out, but like i said it's very group dependent.

Read http://shadowpanther.net/

It has a lot of good information on builds, weapons, and gems.

I wouldn't really concern yourself with the DPS on the trash.  Bosses are what counts.

Are you hit capped?  Once your get hit capped you will see your dps jump.

Ethics

as of right now next to huntards pallys are your best friend for HaT. we roll around with lots of insta casts and usualy an increadibly high crit rating.

Getting hit capped as a dual wield class for white damage is nigh impossible, since you need 700+ hit rating.  General consensus says to get your poisons capped, which is 315.  Anything above that, you should start focusing on agility, crit, AP.
Play like ya got a pair.

You didn't have a destruction warlock in your group the other night. They're crit happy too.  Not so much as the other mentioned classes though..

After that crap performance in Naxx I hit the EJ forums and the practice dummies for a few days and it paid off last night in naxx. I decided to go with a mutilate build only b/c getting the required group comp for HaT is not easy and cripples ur raiding ability. My DPS was alot better this time around. i was easily pulling 1800+ dps from what i saw on my damage meter. iam still waitting for the stats to be posted here, so i can be sure. I was doing 2k+ dps on some bosses. the annoying part for me was keeping HfB up at full 3 stacks, it dropped during a few bosses and it really hurts ur dps.

I used Librarians paper cutter in off-hand and Omen of Ruin in main hand. open with garrote then SnD, mutilate, envenom and goes on like that. I am sure i will be able to do 2500+ dps once i am more comfortable raiding with this spec.

i did fuck up the fight on Maexxna cause i was so into watching hfb not drop off that i didnt hear Kellanon giving me a task, but still managed to top the chart on that one  :P
