How to Ret Paladin

Ok, I don't know how to do a fancy video like Jon - but I'm going to do my best to explain the brief faceroll rotation of the Ret Paladin.  First, these are your attack abilities:

Crusader Strike: CS
Divine Storm: DS
Consecrate: Con
Judgment: JB (B stands for blood)
Exorcism: Exo
Hammer of Wrath: HW

If you have a higher end damage weapon, (which you should strive to get :) ) - you are going to:

CS, JB, DS, Con, CS, Exo - This is the initial start to your rotation.  After this, it becomes a rotation called FCFS (First Come First Serve).  What this means is that you are going to be hitting certain things when they are off cooldown.  You want to prioritize your CS and DS to make sure you are getting your seal damage on the target as much as possible - then you are prioritizing JB to get a mana refresh.  As a side note - on some fights you might want to prioritize JB over DS for more mana regen.

There are going to be times when you have free seconds between your rotation.  During these times, you can hit your Divine Plea - to have more mana regen - and you can also use your divine shield on yourself as well.  Divine shield allows for both a little mitigation for aoe damage - and it allows to absorb some of the lash back from your seal of blood damage.

When you get the enemy to 20% you have access to HW.  As soon as you have a gcd (global cool down) you need to use HW.  HW should then become your number 1 priority over your other abilities, followed by CS.

If you have a lower end damage weapon (such as titansteel destroyer or lower) your initial rotation is going to be: JB, CS, DS, Con, Exo - by then JB and CS should be coming off the gcd at about the same time.  Prioritize your JB since it will be doing slightly more damage.

Any other questions, you can bring your questions to me in the game.

Mark,
As per the conversation that we had with Pat last night could you put in the rotation that those of us ret paladin's should use when we have the titan steel destroyer as a weapon.  I know that the rotation that you have in the above post is good for you and your weapon.  Thanks for all the help Mark.

your weapon doesnt matter. its always first in first out after you do them the first time.

How viable would it be if you made a /castrandom spam macro once you fulfill the initial rotation on a boss? One button to cast any of the spells upon cooldown. You could probably even add Hammer of Wrath into it.
Rule #1: Nobody is your friend.
Rule #2: Do not feel sorry for anybody.
Rule #3: Do not trust anybody.
Rule #4: Nobody can help you.
Rule #5: You gotta look good.

Sherri, the discussion was around the opener and it's really a matter of splitting hairs and crunching numbers. I happen to hit Judgement first; Mark hit Crusader Strike first. The latter scales much better once you start upgrading weapons.

That said, once 3.2 comes out, you want to stack Corruption, so you'll need to time judgements around 5 stacks, so Crusader Strike to open will definitely make sense as an opener.

I have no idea.  Never tried it.  Don't know how to make that kind of macro in the first place.  If you show me in game how to make the macro - I will try it out and see if it works.  I'd imagine if its just using something when it is off cooldown it wouldn't be so bad.

There ya go Sherri.  I did put the info in the first post - but I'm quoting it here.

Thank you all for the information.  And thank you Pat for the information on the new patch and what I will need to lay down first and how many stacks I will need to apply.

I imagine you wouldn't optimize your dps that way, but if you wanted to solo quest with it, or just be lazy, it would work fine. :)

You forgot the most important part. Keybind that macro to every key on your keyboard and faceroll. :P
