Dwarf Shaman fit with the Wildhammer Dwarves (thematically) in Hinterlands and all the lightning wielding Dwarves up in Storm Peaks.  I'm totally with ya on Tauren Paladins being pretty ridiculous, tho.

Oh, they can fit lore-wise. About anything can be made to fit. That's fine. I just think a dwarf who is a shaman is stupid just like I think the entire space goat race is ludicrous. I think the ones in Storm Peaks are earthen.... different than dwarves, but a close cousin, I guess. I'm not a lore person, in any case, even if I did all the quests multiple times.

Shaman implies tribal. The "Ironforge" Dwarves (which are the players race) are not tribal enough, IMO. It just seems a bad fit, but I guess the best fit they could find on the Failliance side.

EDIT: then again, we are talking about the designers who named a lot of shaman abilities "Spirit" and the class has 0 use for the actual Spirit stat..... not that I am bitter.

What new race and class combinations will be available?
A: Nearly every existing race will gain access to a new class they haven’t before. Some of the new race and class combos include dwarf mage, gnome priest, human hunter, troll druid, blood elf warrior, and tauren paladin. Since one of our goals with the expansion is to make the leveling-up process feel fresh again, it made sense to introduce these new combinations as another way for players to get a new perspective on Azeroth.

In other news, I hope this helps everyone:

  What we were finding is that in many cases things had just become so complicated that players were not making intelligent decisions based on their knowledge of how various stats benefited them. That sounds like what you wanted to have happened, but it really wasn't. Instead players would pull up a BiS list, or plug the item into a spreadsheet. If the answer was "upgrade" they equipped the item. We could pretty much just give the items a name and art and make all the stats not displayed.

If you were one of those players who picked up a piece and understood how armor pen vs. attack power benefited you or whether defense was still worth collecting after you had hit crit immunity, then you were in the minority. Hopefully we can get back to a system where eyeballing an item's stats has some chance of being right. (Source)
